This Sunderland Street has been ranked the “most dangerous in the North East” in terms of sexual and physical assaults

A Sunderland street has been ranked as the most dangerous in the North East having recorded more physical and sexual assaults than any other location.

Last year 221 offences were recorded “on or near” Derwent Street in the city centre, which is close to Park Lane.

The street is home to a number of bars and restaurants.

On average one crime was committed here every 40 hours.

Derwent Street was followed by “on or near” Albert Street, close to the station in Middlesbrough, where there were 165 crimes recorded.
