President Donald Trump has ordered federal agencies to ramp up deportations of undocumented migrants, calling for “the single largest mass deportation programme in history.”
The directive, issued via Truth Social, targets major cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York — many of which are designated “sanctuary cities” that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
The announcement follows fresh waves of protests under the “No Kings” movement, with demonstrations in several cities coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday and a US Army parade in Washington DC. One protester was killed in Salt Lake City.
Despite ongoing backlash and legal disputes, Trump told agencies including ICE and the DEA to “get the job done,” reaffirming his support and framing the move as a fulfilment of his campaign pledge.
