West Brom 1-2 Sunderland- Match Report

Sunderland move up into the top six, as a double by Dennis Cirkin saw The Black Cats come from behind to beat The Baggies.

West Brom started the game the stronger of the two sides but failed to create any real chances.

Sunderland grew into the game, and after around 15 minutes, they looked like they were the most likely team to score.

Jack Clarke came close to giving Sunderland the lead in the 39th minute, as he cut in and curled a great shot in with his right foot, but Alex Palmer was able to make the save.

Just before half-time, the referee awarded West Brom a controversial penalty, when Luke O’Nien tried to clear the ball, he missed his kick, and Swift flew himself on the ground after minimal contact.

Swift stepped up to take it himself and slotted it past Patterson in goal.

In the second half, West Brom wondered how they didn’t double their lead.

Just a couple of minutes into the half, West Brom saw a series of shots blocked, as the Sunderland players put their bodies on the line to stop the ball going in.

Sunderland levelled the score moments later, as Lynden Gooch did brilliantly on the right wing, and his cross was met with a magnificent header by Dennis Cirkin.

West Brom also had a goal ruled out later on in the half, as the ball had gone out of play before Yokuslu fired the ball home.

With 5 minutes remaining, Sunderland took the lead, after some patient build-up on the left-hand side, Dennis Cirkin finished smartly to score his first brace of his career.

Sunderland move into the play-off places in goal difference, going into the final 2 games of the season!
