Woman ‘Assaulted After Meeting Stranger on Facebook’

‘My life will never be the same’ – ‘Cold and evil’ Facebook attacker jailed after horrific assaults

A woman has spoken of how her life will “never be the same” after she was assaulted twice by a man she met through Facebook.

Brian Chilcott, 39, was jailed after admitting two counts of assault and one count of criminal damage. Newcastle Crown Court heard he already had a history of attacking former partners before beginning a relationship with the victim after they connected on social media.

One attack took place at a hotel in Northumberland, where staff later discovered blood on the walls and bed following an overnight assault. The second happened at the woman’s home in South Shields, leaving her “absolutely terrified” of what Chilcott was capable of.

Chilcott was sentenced to four years in prison and handed a 15-year restraining order to protect the victim.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, the woman described meeting Chilcott as the “worst mistake” of her life.

She said: “My life will never be the same again. I will never be the same person.

“I have never met someone so cold and evil in my life.”
