Woman who owes £1300 in unpaid Metro fines fined AGAIN after stealing designer perfume from shops
A woman who owed more than £1,300 in unpaid Metro fines has been fined after stealing designer perfume from a Newcastle department store.
Sarah White was detained by security staff at John Lewis after taking a bottle of Paco Rabanne fragrance on October 1 and attempting to leave without paying. CCTV captured the theft and she later admitted she intended to sell the perfume.
White had been due in court earlier this month but failed to attend, leading to a warrant being issued for her arrest. She was picked up by police the following day and appeared before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court in custody, where she pleaded guilty to one count of shop theft.
Prosecutors told the court that White, of Walker Park Close in Walker, had previously received cautions and reprimands for shoplifting but had no formal convictions, although she owed £1,314 in Metro fines.
Her solicitor said she had recently suffered the loss of her mother and had forgotten about her court date after leaving the paperwork at another address.
Magistrates fined White £80 and ordered her to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
