🟢 Walker Dad Strangled and Beat Friend After Pub Argument

A Walker father has received a suspended prison sentence after violently assaulting and strangling his friend on the way home from the pub.

John Swan, of Wardroper House, Walker, got into a heated argument with the man after they had spent the evening drinking together. Newcastle Magistrates’ Court heard that Swan repeatedly punched, kicked, and strangled his friend as he lay on the ground, leaving him breathless and with multiple injuries, including a broken leg and ankle, though it was unclear if the fractures were caused by the attack or a fall.

Swan fled the scene but was later arrested and pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation. He was handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £200 in compensation.

The court heard the victim, frustrated by Swan’s behaviour, tried to calm the situation before the violence escalated.
