64 Northumbria Police Officers Accused of Abuse from 2019-2023
New data has revealed that 64 Northumbria Police officers were accused of sexual or domestic abuse between April 2019 and March 2023. Of these, 54 were investigated, 11 were dismissed, and three prosecuted.
The figures were disclosed at a North Tyneside Council meeting after pressure from Independent councillors demanding greater transparency. Northumbria Police was one of 28 forces that failed to respond to a national Freedom of Information request on officer misconduct.
The force claims it is “relentless” in removing officers who breach standards, with Det Supt Donna Rose reiterating that those who do not uphold the force’s values have “no place within policing.”
Calls continue for clearer accountability across police forces as public trust remains under scrutiny.
