Arrest made after man suffers serious injuries in suspected stabbing at 2am

The Bigg Market in Newcastle has been cordoned off after a suspected stabbing at 2am this morning.

Northumbria Police confirmed in a statement that they were called to a report of a disturbance shortly before 2.10am.

They said a man in his 20s was found with serious injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.

He was taken to hospital and he remains in a stable condition.
