Sunderland man jailed over riots appeals his sentence as “harsh and excessive”
A Sunderland man who was jailed following the disorder that swept the city in August is appealing his sentence on the grounds it was “harsh and excessive”
Paul Williams, 46, was jailed for two years and two months in August after he threw metal fencing and a can of beer at police after goading officers on August 2nd.
He is among four people jailed after the riots which broke out throughout the UK following the Southport stabbings, since confirmed as terrorism linked, who have brought bids to the Court of Appeal to reduce their sentences.
At the Court of Appeal on Thursday ,November 7, judges were told that each of the sentences was “harsh” and “manifestly excessive” and should be reduced.
