Northumbria Police issue Christmas burglary warning after burglaries surge all over Sunderland and the region

Northumbria Police have issued a warning as Christmas time burglaries surge all over Sunderland and the North East.

SGM can note that reports of people burgling homes and businesses, as well as trying doors and eyeing up targets has surged around the city.

A recent meeting by Sunderland Communities West said that the number of reported burglaries in Pallion and Millfield had become astronomical in recent weeks.

Northumbria Police state that they have made 40 burglary related arrests in their area.

Detective Chief Inspector David Simpson told the media: “Unfortunately, we see an increase of burglaries and thefts in the build up to Christmas – with many offenders trying their luck for a quick win. We’d ask members of the public to be vigilant and take some small steps to protect their homes further this Christmas.

“We would urge you to double check your cars, houses and outbuildings are locked. Keep Christmas presents out of sight and do not store them in your cars. By doing so, you can reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.”
