Sunderland 1-0 Millwall – Match Report
Sunderland bounce back and secure a hard earned victory over Millwall thanks to an absolutely brilliant goal from Trai Hume in the first half.
Sunderland now sit 15 points clear in the playoffs and sit 9 points behind Leeds in 2nd.
The Black Cats started the game strongly, with Wilson Isidor and Jobe Bellingham coming extremely close to opening the scoring in the first 2 minutes.
Isidor forced a good save from the ‘keeper and the ball fell to Bellingham, whose shot was well blocked.
Sunderland did eventually score what turned out to be the winning goal, with a brilliantly worked set-piece.
Roberts took the corner short to Romaine Mundle, who played it back to Roberts, and he whipped in a perfect cross to Hume, who volleyed the ball into the net, first time.
Sunderland had a huge opportunity to put the game to bed in the 87th minute, as Romaine Mundle was brought down by Japhet Tanganga in the box, and a penalty was given.
After what seemed to be a heated discussion between the players, Luke O’Nien took the ball away from Mundle, but his penalty was tame, and Lukas Jenson saved to his left.
Nevertheless, Sunderland take all 3 points, and Millwall drop to 13th, and 6 points outside the play-offs positions.
MoTM – Patrick Roberts
