Sunderland golf prodigy, 15, breaks Fairmont St Andrews course record
A 15-year-old Sunderland golf sensation has made history after breaking the course record at Fairmont St Andrews, one of Scotland’s most iconic golf venues.
Millie Hixon, a Year 11 student at St Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic Academy, shot an incredible gross 66 (eight under par) during the Stephen Gallacher Foundation Girls’ U18 Championship, claiming joint first place and setting a new amateur course record.
Over three rounds, Millie finished eight under par with scores of 71 (-1), 66 (-8), and 73 (+1) — an exceptional performance that cements her reputation as one of the UK’s brightest young golfing talents.
Millie, who began playing golf at just five years old, trains at Wearside Golf Club and is coached by Andrew Nicholson from Wynyard Golf Club. She is also part of the England Under-18 Regional Squad, coached by JJ Vallely, and has twice been crowned Durham Junior County Champion (2024 and 2025).
Reflecting on her record-breaking performance, Millie said:
“I am extremely proud – all the hard work I have put in has paid off. I’m looking forward to continuing my training and working towards my ambition of becoming a professional golfer. Along the way, I hope to study Business and Golf at university in America.”
Her school praised both her sporting and academic commitment.
Laura Dudley, Assistant Headteacher at St Anthony’s, said:
“Millie is an outstanding example of dedication, resilience, and ambition. We are incredibly proud of her success on the world stage and look forward to supporting her as she continues her journey in golf and education.”
