Chester-le-Street Pub responds to anti-NUFC backlash by painting more crests on their windows, including Sunderland one
A Chester-le-Street Pub has responded to a furious backlash over painting a Newcastle United mural on its window by adding more crests, including a small Sunderland one as local fans threaten to boycott the establishment
A photo yesterday went viral showing a food substance splattered over the window of the pub after it revealed a mural with a Newcastle Player on it saying “Howay the lads” as well as the crest of the Tyneside Club.
Sunderland fans were aghast at the painting, arguing Chester-le-Street, based on the River Wear, has always leaned towards Sunderland. Many fans in the area also stated they would now boycott the pub.
The pub has responded to try and reassure the critics by simultaneously painting new crests on their windows, including a Liverpool one and a smaller one of SAFC. In a post on Facebook, they stated:
“Our windows are finished, can people be mindful that immy has spent alot of time on these and whilst it wont please everyone, we do NOT expect for them to be defaced and ruin all her hard work….we do welcome all football supporters to our pub we have advertised this to support the teams that are playin in the Premier league.”
