A woman has been BANNED from begging and abusing members of the public across a whole area of the North East following numerous complaints

A woman in Redcar has been banned from begging or abusing members of the public anywhere on Teesside following repeated complaints from residents.

Emma Richie, 45, has been slapped with a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after ongoing issues raised with Redcar’s Neighbourhood Policing Team and council officials. The order is active until December 2027 and carries serious consequences if breached, including possible jail time.

Under the strict conditions, Richie must not beg, ask for money or items, or even sit on the floor or a doorstep of any property that isn’t hers without permission. She’s also barred from staying in shops if asked to leave and is banned from verbally abusing anyone or acting in a disorderly manner in public anywhere across Teesside.

Inspector Neil Deluce said the action shows police are taking public complaints seriously: “Law-abiding members of the public don’t want to be harassed or alarmed… I hope this recent result shows the public we are listening to their concerns.”
