BREAKING: Sadiq Khan Condemns Arson attack on Synagogue being treated as a hate crime
🟢 An attempted arson attack on a synagogue in north London is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime.
Two suspects wearing balaclavas approached a synagogue in Finchley shortly after midnight and threw bottles believed to contain petrol along with a brick at the building.
Thankfully, neither device ignited and no one was injured, with no damage reported.
Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent investigation and are appealing for witnesses as they work to identify those responsible.
Detectives say they understand the concern this will cause in the community — especially following a similar incident in Golders Green last month.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan described the attack as “appalling”, confirming increased police patrols are now in place.
Local MP Sarah Sackman warned such incidents must not become the “new normal”.
Community leaders say while no physical harm was done, the emotional impact is significant.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
