Casting call issued for “SunderVerse” as filming date grows closer

A new casting call has been issued for the series “SunderVerse” as pre-production gets underway and filming is scheduled for early 2024.

The series is the first installment of the SunderVerse universe, a multi-media franchise seeking to build an ensemble of stories, heroes and villains set predominantly in the North East of England.

Chief to this has been The North Star, wherein filming is scheduled for September 2024, as well as an upcoming novel.

Here, upcoming Sunderland actress Becky Lindsay has been cast as the titular hero, Sophie Scott, with other major roles given to Graham Saxon, Johnny Larman, Melissa Chan and Michael Wilson-Dukes.

However, the SunderVerse Chronicles was then planned to come first to serve as an introduction to this new world through offering seven connected, yet standalone stories which will introduce a variety of new characters based largely on local legends, folklore and mythology.

The series is being created by Teesside based Smoggie productions, overseen by Mark Spayne, with the stories and characters written by, T.J Oswald, who will also star as one of its protagonists the Mackem mad scientist, “Dr. Curt Von Marra”

The show will transform some of Sunderland’s most prominent characters into heroes and villains, including ones based on Goya, The Spectre and Bobby Thompson, as well as drawing villains from folklore such as Captain Spottee.

Other highlights will include Japanese demons in Pennywell, a UFO crash in Hendon, a vengeful Nordic goddess and much more…
