CLASSIC MATCH – Sunderland 1-0 Manchester City – 1st Jan 2012

Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland side beat, top of the table side, Manchester City in dramatic fashion on New Year’s Day 2012.
Sunderland soaked up an amazing amount of pressure from Roberto Mancini’s side, and they managed to keep the score at 0-0 all the way until the 93rd minute.
Despite Manchester City having over 3 times as many shots as Sunderland (8-27), they were only able to register 5 shots on target, as The Black Cats defense continued to frustrate City.
City did hit the woodwork twice through Edin Dzeko and Micah Richards, but Aunderland did also have two major chances, either side of the break, but Stephane Sessegnon and Nicklas Bendnter’s efforts were well saved by Joe Hart.
With just 3 seconds remaining on the clock, Sunderland won the game through a quick counter attack.
Sebastian Larsson broke away with the ball and found James McClean.
McClean found Ji on the edge of the area, he played a brilliant one-two with Sessegnon, before taking it round Joe Hart and finishing smartly.
There was suggestions of offside but the Sunderland fans did not care as the roof was taken off The Stadium of Light.
It was also another classic piece of commentary by Martin Tyler, “Ji, Sessegnon and back to JIIIII, HE’S ROUND THE GOALKEEPER, HE’S DONE ITTTT!”
