Enabling works for new Sunderland film studio to officially begin in November

Enabling works for the new Crown Works film studio in Pallion are officially set to start in November, the project has confirmed.

The Crownworks studios, heralded as a gamechanger for the City of Sunderland, were spearheaded by film company Fulwell73 and its chairman Leo Pearlman and later backed by government funding.

It promises to bring thousands of jobs to the region.

Sunderland City Council officially gave planning permission earlier this year for the proposed site sitting on the banks of the River Wear.

According to an instagram post for the project, the enabling works, which will “include the demolition of any existing structures, removal of existing concrete slabs and backfilling with aggregates to provide a level surface and natural drainage,” will start in November and last until August 2025.
