Historic 18th century Lambton House which once hosted Charles Dickens Reopens as new bar

The building known as Lambton House on High Street west was first opened in the year 1797, making it one of the oldest buildings in Sunderland city centre.

Originally created by the Lambton family, the building was known as “The Bridge hotel” and was famous for having hosted Charles Dickens while he was performing in Sunderland at the former Lyceum theatre.

Although the building was vacant for some time and hosted the area’s youth offending service, it has reopened as a bar added itself to a growing number of new bars and venues in the area.

Calling itself The Bridge Hotel Vaults, in its own words the pub “quietly opened” its doors last weekend and will be open four days away from Thursday to Sunday.
