Houghton man arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse of 10 year old autistic girl living next door

A Houghton man already convicted of sex offenses has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing a ten year autistic child who was living next door.

The man, 70, who cannot yet be named due to a court anonymity order relating to his previous victim, as well as the sensitivity of this situation, was first convicted in 2016 after he sexually abused a teenage girl he was entrusted to foster care for, leading to an 18 month custodial sentence which was imposed due to the abuse of his position.

The anonymity order of that time also prohibited the publication of the story to the press, which allowed him to return to life as normal when released from HMP Acklington, posing serious questions as to whether the neighborhood and local community were aware of his sex offender status.

Now, the same individual has been accused of the sexual abuse of a ten year old autistic girl living next door after she was playing in the garden with his grandchildren, and was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

The case has triggered an eviction by Gentoo forcing the rest of his family to move home and out of Houghton, who despite standing by him over his first offense, have now finally cut contact, having substantially because of his actions.
