Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day production and yard operations
- Lead, motivate and support a team of operational colleagues
- Monitor progress against production plans and address performance issues
- Carry out regular safety audits, shift checks and operational inspections
- Maintain Health & Safety standards and promote a zero-harm culture
- Ensure correct operating procedures are followed
- Work closely with engineering, operations and site support teams to resolve issues and minimise downtime
- Support absence management, return-to-work discussions and other first-line people management activities
- Ensure colleagues have the tools, equipment and resources needed to perform their roles effectively
- Maintain accurate operational records
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Experience leading teams within manufacturing, production, logistics or warehouse environments
- Strong people management and communication skills
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and safe systems of work
- Experience working to operational KPIs and production targets
- Ability to coach, motivate and support frontline teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Experience conducting audits, inspections or compliance checks
- Hands-on leadership style with a visible presence on the shop floor
- Flexibility to support production and yard operations
About The Role
CHEP is recruiting an experienced Operations Supervisor to join its Durham site in Spennymoor, DL16 6JE.
The full-time permanent position operates on a rotating two-shift pattern, working either 06:00–14:00 or 14:00–22:00. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day supervision of production and yard operations.
The successful candidate will lead a team of approximately 10 colleagues and spend most of their time on the shop floor, supporting the team, monitoring performance, resolving operational issues and ensuring production and logistics activities run safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities include monitoring production plans, carrying out safety audits and inspections, maintaining Health & Safety standards and ensuring correct operating procedures are followed. The role also involves working with engineering, operations and site support teams to resolve issues and minimise downtime.
CHEP is looking for an experienced Supervisor, Team Leader or aspiring people manager with experience in manufacturing, production, warehousing or logistics. Strong people management, communication, problem-solving and Health & Safety skills are required.
The role provides exposure across both production and logistics operations, with opportunities to develop leadership skills and progress into more senior operational leadership positions.
