About the Role

• Join Gateshead Council’s Adult Social Care service as a Peripatetic Cook.

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals for adults with a range of support needs.

• Support individuals with learning disabilities, dementia and those recovering after hospital discharge.

• Help create positive dining experiences that promote wellbeing, independence and quality of life.

• Work across multiple locations when required to support service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and serve meals and beverages to a high standard.

• Support individual dietary requirements, preferences and specialist nutritional needs.

• Order food supplies and manage catering budgets effectively.

• Undertake stock control and stock rotation procedures.

• Monitor and record food, fridge and freezer temperatures.

• Ensure compliance with food hygiene and health and safety regulations.

• Clean kitchen facilities and equipment to required standards.

• Provide guidance to staff regarding cleaning and food preparation areas.

• Communicate effectively with colleagues, service users and support staff.

Essential Requirements

• Accredited Food Safety qualification.

• NVQ Level 3 in Catering (or equivalent) or willingness to achieve the qualification.

• Knowledge of food allergies and intolerances or willingness to undertake training.

• Understanding of specialist dietary requirements including dysphagia diets.

• Experience preparing meals for larger groups.

• Strong organisational and communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
