About The Role

North East Autism Society is recruiting a Casual Residential Child Carer to support children and young people at one of its residential homes.

The role offers a permanent zero-hours contract and pays £13.53–£14.14 per hour, with additional sleep-in payments of around £60 per shift. The position is suited to someone who has a genuine passion for helping children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and wants to make a positive difference to their lives.

Residential homes provide a “home from home” environment where staff support children both within the home and out in the community. Duties can include helping children get ready for school, preparing meals, attending activities such as swimming and trampolining, going on days out and holidays, and accompanying children to medical appointments.

The role involves working both independently and as part of a team. Staff are encouraged to bring their own interests and skills, such as cooking, sport, outdoor activities, art or crafts, to help enrich the children’s experiences and encourage independence.

Previous experience in health and social care or working with autistic people is not essential. North East Autism Society provides comprehensive induction, training and mentoring, as well as support towards a Diploma in Health and Social Care and further specialist training.

The organisation operates a safer recruitment process. The position is subject to an enhanced DBS check and filtering and monitoring process. Applicants who are barred from regulated activity relevant to children or vulnerable adults are not eligible to apply.

North East Autism Society currently does not offer sponsorship for this role.
