Millfield man stabbed best friend with kitchen knife

A Millfield man who stabbed his “best friend” with a kitchen knife has been jailed.

Ryan Frater had been drinking with his friend in August before they went home, a court heard.

But an argument broke out and soon Frater took a knife with a five inch blade.

He swung the weapon at his friend and stabbed him in the lower back.

The prosecutor said the men had known each other since they were children and were best friends.

His friend had attempted to evade the attack and was stabbed in the lower back, as well as scratched on his face and stomach.

Attempts to calm him down failed, with the attacker insisting on aggression and telling him he would die here.

Frater 32, of Aiskell Street, Millfield, pleaded guilty to wounding, threatening with a bladed article and assaulting an emergency worker (police officer) who he spat on.

He was sentenced to 28 months in prison.
