Millwall 1-1 Sunderland – Match Report

Sunderland let yet another lead slip as Femi Azeez comes on as a substitute to be the hero for Millwall with a last minute equaliser.

For now, Sunderland are top of the league on goal difference, but if Leeds United can beat Swansea City tomorrow, Leeds will overtake Sunderland and go top of the table.

Aaron Connolly scored his first goal for the club in the first 10 minutes with a brilliant volleyed goal on the edge of the box, following a free-kick.

The game was brought to a hault in the 40th minute due to a medical emergency in the stands, the game got back on the way after a 30 minute break.

The teams played the 5 minutes remaining in the first half, before going in for half-time with another 15 minute break.

Millwall dominated the ball in the 2nd half, without creating many clear cut chances.

Josh Coburn did force a decent save from Anthony Patterson half-way through the 2nd half, but that was the only major save Patterson had to make.

That was until Femi Azeez equalised in the dying moments of the game.

Milan Aleksic came on for an injured Aaron Connolly to make his debut, and he had the chance to finish the game off after a magnificent ball in behind by Wilson Isidor.

Aleksic struck the ball straight at the keeper, which allowed Millwall to break, resulting in their goal.

Aidomo Emakhu was found in space on the right-hand side and his ball across goal found Azeez who couldn’t miss from close range.

It is now 4 draws in a row for Sunderland, but their unbeaten run has extended to 9 matches.

Next up for Sunderland is West Brom at home on Tuesday night, and hopefully they will still be top of the league going into that game.
