New safe space for young women and girls opens in East London

A new support hub exclusively for young women and girls has opened in Stratford, East London, offering a secure environment for those aged 13 to 25.

The Bloom Hub, run by women’s charity Advance, is described as a “one-stop shop” for support. Funded by London’s Violence Reduction Unit and the Ministry of Justice, the centre provides counselling, homework spaces, clothes, snacks, and access to mentors all in a female-only setting.

Staff say the hub is particularly valuable for girls from cultural backgrounds where mixed-gender spaces are restricted. Director Dali Kaur said some attendees feel this is the only space where they can talk freely or seek help.

The centre was co-developed with young people and aims to support those affected by domestic abuse, violence, or the criminal justice system.

Between October 2024 and February 2025, Advance received over 1,000 referrals to its girls’ services with two-thirds relating to sexual or violent offences.
