Nottingham Forest 0-1 Sunderland – Match Report

Omar Alderete scores his first Sunderland goal, as The Black Cats earn their first away win of the season to move up to 3rd.

Itnwas apparently a “controversial” goal, but in my opinion it was nice to see.

Forest midfielder, Dominguez, went down after a challenge from Hume, and rolled around on the floor despite there being little to no contact, and for once the referee booked him and gave a free-kick.

Sunderland took full advantage and Xhaka’s perfect ball in was converted by Alderete, who peeled away at the back stick and headed home.

Wilson Isidor almost gave Sunderland the lead early on in the game, after some scruffy play on the edge of the box, the ball fell to him, but he dragged his shot just wide.

Firest dominated the game in the 2nd half, but Sunderland defended extremely well and Roefs made some really impressive saves yet again.

The first major save came in the 68th minute, after a scramble in the box, the ball fell kindly for Bakawa, whose shot was well saved by Roefs with his foot.

The next came from Chris Wood, not long after, who tried to divert a cross towards goal from the front post, but Roefs’ positioning was perfect again.

Chris Wood also missed an absolute sitter late on after an unbelievable cross from Omari Hutchinson, and he somehow headed wide from close range.

Granit Xhaka was also outstanding throughout, really rallying the team on, winning the ball back constantly, and got yet another assist!

New Forest manager, Ange Postecoglou remains winless after his first 5 matches, after taking over the Europa League club earlier this month.

Next up for Sunderland is Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday 4th October at 3pm.
