Police appeal after deceased child’s grave vandalised, burnt and items stolen

Police have launched an appeal after a child’s grave was burnt, vandalised and had items stolen from it.

A statement reads: “On Saturday 23 November, Cleveland Police received a report of items being set on fire from a child’s grave in the cemetery.

There has also been reports of items including Disney characters, wooden barriers and stones being stolen from another child’s grave.

Naturally, this has caused great distress to the family involved, and our thoughts are with them.

Officers have attended the cemetery and spoken with the family, with enquiries now underway.

Officers would urge anyone with information or CCTV footage that shows the cemetery to get in touch, either by contacting Cleveland Police on 101 or visiting their website and quoting reference number 223608.

Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting their website.”
