Popular North East radio presenter Simon Grundy is celebrating a broadcasting milestone (on 1st May 2023) as he reaches a quarter of a century presenting the Breakfast Show on 103.4 Sun FM Radio.

Whilst Simon is used to playing records on his show, his stint of 25 years presenting the same show on the same radio station must be some kind of record in itself.

Reflecting on his time at Sun FM Radio Simon said: “I jumped at the chance to return home when the opportunity arose in 1998 as it’s where my family were from. My Great Uncle Reg worked at Monkwearmouth Colliery, where I would become the match-day announcer at the Stadium of Light which was built on the site whilst my Great Grandad was an electrician in the shipyards, the site where the Sun FM studios were built so it all seemed to come full circle.

It took us a few years to build an audience that for many years eclipsed all the other radio station’s Breakfast Shows but my biggest achievement was receiving an award from Macmillan Cancer Support for the all the awareness and money we raised over the years in the region for them.”

Neil Greenslade, Programme Director said: “Simon is an absolute legend of North East broadcasting and makes it effortless to connect with audiences across the area every day.  Huge congratulations from everyone at Nation Broadcasting on reaching this milestone.”

You can hear Simon Grundy every weekday from 6am on Sun FM Radio on FM across Sunderland, County Durham and Darlington, on DAB Digital Radio in Tynemouth, South Shields and Newcastle.  Sun FM Radio is also available on the Nationplayer mobile app and by asking smartspeakers to ‘Play Sun FM Radio’.
