Southwick land sold for £1 to build “affordable homes”

Sunderland city council has sold a piece of land in Southwick for just £1 to a housing association to build “affordable homes.”

The land is situated in Cato Street in Southwick, and has been acquired by Northumberland based Bernicia Homes.

The company wants to build 11 bungalows on the land, which the city council said was valued at £25,000.

A report submitted to the council ahead of its meeting on Thursday said the project would “promote and improve the social wellbeing” of residents.
