Houghton man says “My God, what have I done” after brutal attack on wife

Jason Easton, 29, from Houghton-le-Spring, has been sentenced after a violent outburst in which he slapped and punched his wife before smashing up their bedroom with a hammer.

Police CCTV captured the sounds of destruction as Easton shouted:

“I’ve gone too far tonight… my God, what have I done.”

He admitted assault and criminal damage after the drunken attack, which left his wife with minor injuries and their bedroom wrecked.

Judge Julie Clemitson handed Easton an 18-month community order with rehabilitation and 70 days of alcohol monitoring, along with a 12-month restraining order to protect his victim.

The court heard he was “deeply ashamed” and that divorce proceedings are now underway.e
