Row breaks out after Sunderland woman claims to find maggot in pub salad, but staff dispute it
A row has broken out after a Sunderland discovered what she claims was a giant maggot crawling in a meal she ordered from the pub in the city centre. The venue however, have disputed this, leading to a war of words between the two parties.
Cheryl Maughan dined at the JD Wetherspoon owned Cooper Rose on Thursday with her partner and ordered a Tennessee Beef Burger Combination and a chilli jacket potato through the app. SGM has seen a copy of the receipt and proof of pre-payment from that day, which is genuine.
However, she was in for a nasty surprise as the accompanying salad had what appears to be a large yellow maggot in it which she states was still moving, as pictured.

When asked by SGM how she responded on discovering this, she said the Cooper Rose manager was unsympathetic and refused her a refund, claiming that the object in the picture was a “Kidney Bean.”
Following the publication of the story, a member of staff, speaking anonymously, continued to dispute the claim to SGM. They argued it was a grain of some sort and shown a photo to SGM of a grain in some chilli. However, it did not look like the object in the original photo provided.
The employee then reiterated that the pub has a 5 star hygiene rating and the staff work to the hardest professional standards. The staff member also claimed that Cheryl was offered a refund, but refused it.
