UPDATED: The Shiney Row Dog Attack: What we know so far

Police have opened up a murder investigation after a man, now named as Ian Langley, 54 has died following a dog attack at Shiney Row yesterday which is understood to be an XL bully.

  • There are conflicting accounts of how the incident started and no confirmation. National level newspapers now report that a man was walking his dog and protecting it.
  • However, a story has circulated (primarily on social media) involving the allegation windows were broken and the dog responded by attacking and gave chase. Some local people have since denied this.
  • SGM cannot comment if this was intentional, or unintentional, at the behest of the owner.
  • A 44 year old man was subsequently arrested, while Ian ultimately passed away.
  • It is alleged by neighbours that the dog involved was an XL bully, this has since been confirmed, including by photograph
  • The police immediately shot the offending dog dead in the man’s back garden.
  • Another dog, not involved in the attack, was confiscated.
  • Multiple neighbour sources claim the dog attacked the man’s throat.
  • He received CPR on the scene.
  • It has now been confirmed the man died and witnesses stated that his death had already occurred on the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
  • As of Thursday morning the 44 year old man arrested in suspicion of murder was bailed.
