Thorney Close Club up for sale

The former Thorney Close Inn social club building is now formally up for sale, with residents having spotted a new sign.

The club, which closed during the pandemic, was recently subject to controversy after Sunderland City Council proposed demolishing it and converting the premises into accommodation.

Critics accused the plans of incorporating a halfway house for rehabilitating criminals, which in the consultation document the council would not rule out sex offenders.

Now however, the emergence of a for sale sign on the building has raised new questions about its future, or if the council have given up on this proposal following overwhelming local opposition.
