Thorney Close man threatened to snap his mother’s partner’s neck outside of Gilley Law Tower

A Thorney Close man threatened to “snap” his mum’s new partner’s neck outside Altrincham Tower while police were present, a court heard.

David Atkinson, 29, of Taunton Square, Thorney Close, shouted towards an eighth‑floor flat after his sister was upset by messages from the partner. A witness said up to six people were outside and an object was thrown; a shovel and hammer were later found in Atkinson’s car, though there was no evidence he threw anything.

Atkinson pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive behaviour with intent. Magistrates fined him £120, ordered £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge, and imposed a 12‑month restraining order banning contact with the victim and attendance at Altrincham Tower. He has six previous convictions from 21 offences, the latest in October 2022.
