Manjaros: The fastest growing national alternative to Nando’s that is one of the best new restaurants to open in Sunderland this year
Manjaros is a chain restaurant that opened up a branch at the beginning of this year on Sunderland’s High Street. Literally just opposite Nando’s and the cinema, its name and logo quite obviously takes some inspiration from the Peri-Peri chicken chain, describing itself as being “based on a blend of African and Caribbean flavours.”

However, rather than being a copycat imitation, Manjaros own menu more than holds its own against Nando’s and provides a novel alternative. Having originated in Middlesbrough, the specialty of the chain is its chicken parmos,

Manjaros menu offers a wide range of chicken related dishes, in the form of wraps, burgers, skewers, grills wings, and in various styles such as Tandoori. It also does Pasta and Pizza dishes. The food is good quality and not too pricey either.
Overall, Manjaros is a great new addition to Sunderland’s restaurant scene and one which can sometimes fall under the radar, but it’s definitely one of the best new venues to open in 2024. Pop down to High Street and give it a try!
