Girl, 11, Left Scarred for Life After Pocket Bully Dog Attack
An 11-year-old girl has been left permanently scarred and traumatised after she was mauled by a Pocket Bully dog during a visit to a friend’s home in Dundee.
Maisie Wallace was spending time at a friend’s house on Balunie Avenue during the Easter holidays when the two-year-old dog, believed to have escaped from a locked room, launched a violent attack. The animal sank its teeth into Maisie’s arm, ripping open muscle tissue and leaving her covered in blood.
Her mother, Lauren, a 45-year-old district nurse, arrived to find her daughter drenched in blood and rushed her to Ninewells Hospital. Surgeons performed a three-hour emergency operation to remove dead skin and reconstruct muscle damaged in the attack.
Doctors have warned that Maisie faces further procedures, including skin grafts and reconstructive surgery. She has been left with a large scar and is now too afraid to leave the house, fearing the dog has not been seized.
Police Scotland confirmed they are investigating the incident, which occurred on April 14. However, the Pocket Bully has not yet been removed from the home, prompting outrage from Maisie’s family.
Lauren said: “This dog has a jaw like an XL Bully. It shouldn’t be allowed near children. It had to be wrestled off my daughter, and it could do the same thing again.”
Maisie missed weeks of school and has been unable to attend her theatre group, where she was due to perform in a summer show. Her confidence has been shattered.
Police said: “Around 7.20pm on Monday, 14 April, we received a report of an 11-year-old girl being attacked by a dog at a property in Balunie Avenue. She was taken to hospital for treatment. Enquiries are ongoing.”
