Sunderland Man Bit Police Officer During Violent Outburst

A 33-year-old Sunderland man has been sentenced after he bit a police officer during a furious outburst in the back of a patrol car.

Karzan Ramazan was arrested in February 2024 for “irate behaviour” after police were called by a concerned member of the public. Once inside the police vehicle, he began screaming, swearing and repeatedly headbutting the window, forcing officers to restrain him for his own safety.

During the struggle, Ramazan suddenly turned and bit PC McColl on the wrist.

Despite initially claiming he had no memory of the assault, he pleaded guilty to attacking an emergency worker.

⚖️ Sentence:

  • 12-month community order
  • 225 hours unpaid work

Judge Hedworth KC told him he must now “put something back into the community”.
