About The Role
R W Barrett & Son Funeral Services is looking for a professional, flexible and reliable Funeral Service Operative to help prepare and deliver funeral services to a high standard.
The role involves funeral preparations, vehicle cleaning, assisting with the handling and preparation of coffins, and supporting the care of the deceased.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash, polish and clean funeral vehicles before services and prepare them for future funerals.
- Collect deceased individuals from hospitals, care homes, private residences and other locations when required.
- Undertake pallbearing duties.
- Drive limousines and hearses.
- Assist with coffin and other deliveries.
- Carry out general cleaning, sweeping, manual handling and lifting.
- Prepare coffins for funerals.
- Assist with the preparation and dressing of the deceased.
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota, with additional payment.
Requirements
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Must live within approximately 20 minutes of the office for out-of-hours call-outs.
- Professional appearance and manner.
- Commitment to delivering funeral services to a high standard.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift and carry heavy items safely, following manual handling procedures.
- Flexible and adaptable approach.
- Previous funeral service experience is beneficial but not essential.
Working Pattern
The position is part-time, with expected hours of 15–30 per week. Day shifts, overtime and weekend availability may be required. Applicants must be comfortable participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota.
Work Location: In person, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
