Parent’s fury as AAA sports dismisses child from party because he has Downs Syndrome

A Sunderland dad, and other parents, have reacted with fury after his son with Downs Syndrome was ejected from a children’s birthday party at the AAA sports complex in Southwick citing gymnastics policies.

40 minutes into the party, Guy Trembath’s son was asked to leave on discovery he had Downs Syndrome. The facility, which primarily deals in Gymnastics, argued that the consent form for his participation was not valid because of his disability and a medical approval was needed.

However, Guy argued that his son was not participating in Gymnastics, but simply playing on soft mats, where he was constantly supervising his son. He criticised the facility for using the British Gymnastics Association policy to remove him from the event.

The ejection of the child was extremely upsetting for all involved and according to other parents effectively ruined the party. Guy in a social media post then condemned AAA gymnastics for being “narrow minded over sports inclusion.”
