Stay away warning issued for Marsden Bay after cliff collapse

A “stay away” warning has been issued for Marsden Bay after a cliff collapse occurred following the severe weather which has recently hit the North East

The National Trust, which manages the stretch of coastline, said that the cliff fall which took place on Monday, October 30, was caused by days of heavy rain. As a result, the National Trust is advising people visiting the coast to stay away from the edge and base of the cliffs.

With a further weather warning being issued by the Met Office for the North East for Thursday and Friday, further heavy rain is expected to batter the region. It poses a significant risk to people visiting the coast.

The wet weather has wreaked havoc across the North East over the past few days on both the coast and inland. Huge piles of seaweed were also washed up in Seaburn.

Areas of County Durham were also flooded, with the River Wear having burst its banks in several areas.
