Washington Biker avoids jail after leading police on dangerous late night chase on his bike
A Washington biker who led police on a dangerous late-night chase has avoided jail after admitting to dangerous driving.
Corey Cronin, 21, from Coach Road Estate, Usworth, was pursued by officers—on the ground and by helicopter—at around 1.30am on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
He was one of two riders being tracked, but police focused on Cronin after the other fled on foot near the A182 Washington Highway.
Cronin continued off-road at high speed before deciding to pull over and turn off his engine in Coach Road Estate. He waited for officers to arrive and was arrested without further incident.
In court, it was heard he acted under peer pressure and had since stayed out of trouble. A first-time offender, Cronin pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
He was sentenced to a 12-month community order, with 15 rehabilitation days and 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also banned from driving for a year and must take an extended test to regain his licence.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
