Sunderland 2-2 Plymouth Argyle – Match Report

Sunderland fail to take advantage and put some real pressure on the top 2 after Nathanael Ogbeta scores in the 90th minute to steal a point at The Stadium of Light.

Sunderland stay 4th, 3 points away from Sheffield United in 2nd and 4 points off Leeds at the top, with Leeds playing 3rd place Burnley on Monday night.

The first half consisted of Sunderland having pretty much all of the ball, but without creating many chances at all.

The second-half was a slightly better viewing with 4 goals split between the 2 sides.

Sunderland started the second half slowly, and they were punished just before the hour mark Ryan Hardie managed to squeeze the ball home via a deflection from Anthony Patterson l, eventually going down as an own goal by the ‘keeper.

Sunderland reacted quickly, and equalized just over a minute later as Wilson Isidor got a lovely touch onto Trai Hume’s cross.

Trai Hume then put Sunderland in front with just over 10 minutes left, after Patrick Roberts’ free-kick caused havoc in the Plymouth Penalty area, and the ball fell to Hume, and he smashed it in.

Sunderland decided to sit back and bring on defensive substitutions, and it came back to bite them.

Argyle we’re throwing everything at it towards the final moments, and they were rewarded after several balls came into the box, before eventually falling to Nathanael Ogbeta, who volleyed it beyond Patterson.

Sunderland fans showed their frustration after the final whistle, and rightly so, after such a below par performance against bottom of the league.
