Sunderland 1-1 Aston Villa – Match Report
A truly heroic performance from the Black Cats see them earn a point against Aston Villa, despite going down to 10 men on 33 minutes.
Matty Cash came in with a late challenge on Reinildo Mandava, and Reinildo lashed out with his foot, and the referee showed a red card.
Sunderland had a whole hour to deal with Villa, with just 10 men, but they truly could’ve won the match, they were the better side.
Omar Alderete was unlucky not to give Sunderland the lead in the 2nd half with a beauty of a header which hit the under side of the bar.
Another positive for Sunderland was Noah Sadiki, he was absolutely everywhere, I can’t remember seeing a Sunderland player run that much during a match in my life!
Aston Villa did take the lead through Matty Cash on the 67th minute, with a great strike from outside the box, following a corner, Robin Roefs possibly could’ve done better, but he was probably unsighted due to a crowded penalty area.
It was Aston Villa’s first league goal of the season, a drought that lasted 427 minutes.
The lead didn’t last long, as Sunderland continued to push and Wilson Isidor became the first player in history to score in each of the first 3 premier home matches for a newly promoted club, to earn Sunderland a point.
I’d hate to have to make the decision for Regis Le Bris on who to start out of Ballard, Mukiele and Alderete next week, as they were all absolutely immense today.
Next up for Sunderland is Nottingham Forrest away on Saturday 5:30pm kick off.
MoTM – Noah Sadiki
