Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City – Match Report
The Black Cats held title-chasing Manchester City to a 0-0 draw, and they were maybe unlucky not to win with the way they played.
Sunderland stay 7th in the league, just 1 point away from the top 4, and City move a point closer to Arsenal at the top, with the gap closing to 4 points.
City did have their chances, but the Sunderland players put their body on the line to block many attempts, and Robin Roefs made some brilliant saves.
Theu also had an early goal disallowed as Bernardo Silva was caught offside following a corner, before the ball was bundled in.
Haaland also had a huge opportunity early on after being picked out in the centre of the box, but his effort was well saved by Roefs with his feet.
Other than that, Haaland was extremely quiet, as he was bullied by Nordi Mukiele throughout and he just never let the Norwegian striker have a sniff.
Brian Brobbey had a brilliant opportunity in the first half after a long ball by Mukiele, as he did unbelievably well to hold off Ruben Dias, but his effort was saved by an on-rushing Donarumma.
Sunderland got straight into City in the early exchanges of the second-half, with Simon Adingra almost catching Donarumma out at his near post.
Moments later, Eliezer Mayenda pounced onto the ball on the left-hand side of the box, and cut in and fired towards the bottom corner, but Donarumma got down quick to block the shot.
City continued to try and break the deadlock late on, but failed to create any major chances chances, with Sunderland defending brilliantly from back to front.
Next up for Sunderland is Tottenham Hotspur away from home on Sunday afternoon.
MoTM – Nordi Mukiele – He was an absolute rock at the back, and he never let the world’s most prolific striker get anywhere near the goal. Brilliant.
