Preston 0-3 Sunderland – Match Report

Sunderland hammer Preston at Deepdale to secure a play-off place at the first time of asking!

Blackburn came back from 3-1 down against Millwall to beat them 3-4, which meant Sunderland moved up to 6th.

The first half was one of very few chances for either side, with Preston arguably the better of the 2 sides, forcing a few saves from Anthony Patterson.

Halfway through the first-half, Patrick Roberts almost re-created his goal from last week, but the Preston ‘keeper was able to finger tip it over the bar.

Liam Delap had a glorious opportunity to put Preston in the lead just before half-time, but despite being 1 on 1 with Anthony Patterson, he somehow put it wide.

Alex Pritchard came on at half-time, and it was a completely different game, Sunderland demolished Preston in the space of 11 minutes.

Amad opened the scoring with a beauty of a shot, which he curled into the top corner, sending the Sunderland fans into delirium.

7 minutes later, Alex Pritchard doubled Sunderland’s lead with a shot that floated through the crowd and wrong footed the ‘keeper!

Sunderland made it 3 moments later, as Jack Clarke cut inside and curled in another beauty into the bottom corner.

No one expected Sunderland to be where they are now, it really is an amazing achievement!

Sunderland now face Luton on Saturday at The Stadium of Light, before travelling to Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night in the second leg.

MoTM – Pierre Ekwah

What a game ge had, he was unlucky not to get his first goal, but it was by far his best performance in a Sunderland shirt.
