Rotherham VS Sunderland – Match Preview & Prediction

Tonight, Sunderland travel down to South Yorkshire, as they face bottom of the league, Rotherham United in their final game of 2023.

Last time out, Sunderland’s new head coach, Michael Beale won his first game since taking over, in a vital win away to Hull City on Boxing Day, thanks to a fabulous Jack Clarke goal.

Rotherham also won on Boxing Day, with a surprise 1-0 victory against play-off chasing Middlesbrough.

It was Rotherhams first win in 11 games, as they currently sit rock-bottom of The Championship table, 9 points adrift from safety.

It was a much needed victory for Sunderland against Hull in their last match, after losing 0-3 at home to Coventry in Beale’s first game in charge, the worst defeat a Sunderland manager has ever faced in their first game.

However, the result meant that The Black Cats moved back into the Play-off places.

A win for Sunderland could see them move up to 5th, and 3 points clear in the play-off places.

If Rotherham were to defy the odds and win their second game in a row, they could move to within 6 points from safety.

Team News

Niall Higgins will miss the remainder of the season. After picking up a nasty knee injury against Hull, and Bradley Dack will also miss out after picking up a knock last time out.
