Sheffield United VS Sunderland – Match Report
Sheffield United take their chance to go top of the table, as Sunderland’s unbeaten streak of 10 matches comes to an end.
Tom Davies scores late to win the match for the Blades, after a lucky ricochet met with some delightful skill before a tidy finish.
A red card for either team, made the match a brilliant watch for a neutral.
Despite being 10 matches unbeaten, it’s now 6 matches without a win for the Black Cats, as they sink to a further 5 points from the top of the table.
Sunderland started the match very well, with quite a few half chances, mainly created by 18-year-old Tommy Watson.
He did miss a vital chance, where he found space in the box but dragged his shit wide.
Sunderland we’re awarded a penalty in the first half, after some nice skill on the edge of the box by their captain, Jack Robinson.
Patrick Roberts stepped up and his tame penalty was saved by the keeper.
5 minutes before half-time, Chris Mepham saw a very harsh red card as he brought down Tyrese Campbell on the edge of the box.
It looked as though Campbell’s touch went backwards as Mepham challenge went in, meaning it is definitely not a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Sheffield United also went down to 10 men moments later when Wilson Isidor turned Harry Souttar on the halfway line, and Souttar stupidly brought him down to earn his second yellow card.
Sunderland also dominated most of the 2nd half without created many real chances.
Wilson Isidor had a decent opportunity after winning the ball back, but his shot went well wide.
Sheffield United grew into the game as the half went on, forcing 2 great saves from Patterson, before eventually winning the match.
An opportunity missed for The Black Cats, but they need to dust themselves off and go again to save their promotion push.
