Sunderland 0-1 Millwall – Match Report
Former Sunderland player, Duncan Watmore scores the goal to secure Championship safety for Millwall at The Stadium of Light.
It was a truly awful and lackluster performance by The Black Cats, that was met with plenty of boos at the full-time whistle.
Millwall set up perfectly, and just didn’t allow Sunderland to break them down throughout, and ultimately got their reward.
Although, Sunderland don’t have anything to play for, the fans expect to see heart and fight in every game, and it was not shown today.
The Sunderland faithful spent their hard earned money watching 11 men play like it was a training game, jogging around and passing backwards whenever possible.
The way Mike Dodds set the team up was very strange, he seemed to play the same formation that he started against Leeds and West Brom, which made no sense.
Former Black Cats, Duncan Watmore made a brilliant run at the front post, and was able to guide the ball past Patterson in the 71st minute.
Millwall are now 9 points above relegation with 2 games left, meaning today’s victory has guaranteed them Championship football for next season.
Sunderland stay in 13th on 56 points, 3 points away from Bristol City in the top 12.
