Sunderland 1-1 Bristol City – Match Report
Patrick Roberts saves a point for The Black Cats with a superb finish in the 93rd minute.
Sunderland missed out on the chance to move up into the top 2, as they had to settle for another draw.
Bristol City scored just after the hour mark with an extremely scrappy goal, as the Sunderland defence just could not clear their lines, and the ball fell to Luke McNally, who provided a smart finish to put The Robins in front.
The Black Cats struggled to break down Bristol City’s defence throughout the game, but they did have plenty of half chances that were either well saved or brilliantly blocked.
Wilson Isidor had an early chance, after his header was well saved by O’Leary, and Tommy Watson had a good chance after some nice play on the right-hand side, but his effort was well blocked.
Unfortunately for Watson, the challenge that came with the block ended his match, and he was replaced by the goalscorer, Patrick Roberts.
After plugging away, Sunderland finally got their goal right at the death, and it was started and finished by Patrick Roberts.
He cut inside and got passed a few players, before picking out Adil Aouchiche, who got to the bi-line and pulled it back to Roberts and he rifled it into the roof of the net.
Dan Ballard came extremely close to being a hero with the last chance of the game to take all 3 points, after his looping header was just tipped over the bar from O’Leary.
Next up for Sunderland, they travel down to Swansea City in Saturday at 3pm.
